The April Get Together
By: Scot Anderson

Through snow, hail and blowing wind, and even some bouts of sunshine, 40 of our members showed up for the April Get-Together at the Q Roadhouse. Porsche Flags and racing banners marked off the parking area. And even though the weather was anything but random, everyone showed up with smiling faces.

The change in venue was a welcome surprise for all. The private room at the Q had views overlooking the grounds adjacent to the building. The tables were dressed with the proper dining utensils, the music played in the background, our members had a great time “mixing and mingling”, and needless to say the peanuts were flying everywhere.

Food on tap was Pulled Pork Sandwiches and Eggplant Vegetarian Cantelloni’s, which I might add, were a huge success and a big change over Sidewinders pizza. On the side were Roadhouse Cole Slaw and an endless supply of French Fries. Cocktail waitresses did a great job at serving drinks and made sure everyone had their libation of choice.

Scot Anderson, our friendly VP, gave an amazing speech (even he was “wow-ed” by his success). After introducing our newest members, Don and Anne Alsted, who had no problem fitting into our club, Scot ran through the list events for the upcoming driving season.

Anne Fish stepped in to talk about the June Dinner, being held this year at the Four Seasons Hotel. The dinner is one of Yellowstone Regions nicer events and is being held on Friday, June 12th. Having attained the ballroom at no charge to the Club, putting together an amazing menu, and even organizing a “Porsche Platz” parking for all members, we are guaranteed an amazing event.

The Porsche Parade takes place from June 30th to July 5th, in Keystone, Colorado. Greg Prugh Jr and Sr. will be attending the concourse event on Monday and Tuesday showing a Porsche 356. Ken and Robin Koop, our President and Treasurer, will be at the event all week, no doubt fitting in some golf here and there. Scot Anderson, Anne Fish, Mike and Nancy Faems, and hopefully others will be driving down together on Tuesday to partake in events mid-week.

Old Ken’s Fun Run and Membership drive, our 3rd Annual Road Rally and Scavenger Hunt, will be on Saturday, August 1st. The event will take place in and around Jackson. For those who have participated in the past will find this year’s event familiar, however, this event will add a new twist to the term “back seat driver.”

Mike and Nancy Faems Porsche Potluck and Social will take place on Saturday, August 29th. They have so graciously opened their new home to the Porsche Club, and from what I’m told, their house is pretty spectacular. Once again, it’s not just a name, but it is a Pot Luck (last name): A-J Appetizer, K-S Main Dish, and T-Z Dessert. And don’t forget to bring your party hat.

Mike Mielke stepped in to talk about the Teton Valley Rotary Club’s Targhee Hill Climb. And even though this event is not tied into the PCA, Mike gave his enthusiasm for the event itself… “You can push your car to your own envelope, and drive as fast or as slow as you feel comfortable. It’s an amazing event,” he said. The event takes place on September 11th through September 13th, and participants can join for the whole event or simply pick one day in which to drive. The Teton Vally Rotary Club is looking for volunteers to help run this race and to continue to be able to hold the event. Please contact John Hansford, a PCA member, at hansford@drawknife.com if you would like to help.

Brain Moore, our famed Porsche mechanic, stepped in to talk about the Monterey Historics taking place August 14-17. This year, Porsche is the Marquee (the featured automobile) for the event. There will be cars you’ve never seen before and cars that will be pulled out of museums just for this event,” he said. Brian encouraged anyone interested in seeing the history of Porsche to attend.

The Idaho Falls “Fall Tour and Lunch Stop” will be held on Saturday, September 26th. The tour will be a one day trip to Idaho falls with lunch being held in a private room at Johnny Carino’s Italian Restaurant. This is a social event for our members to be able to get out and drive their cars. It just so happens that Part 1 of the tour ends at 10 AM and resumes with Part 2 of the tour at 12:30 at Johnny Carino’s.

Mention of our October Get-Together was brought up with the possibility of having a dinner and guest speaker for educational purposes on the history of Porsche. As the organizational details of this event are still being worked on, this event is pending until details can be finalized. Stay tuned.

Scot Anderson and Greg Prugh Jr. are organizing a club outing to the Porsche High Performance Driving School in April, 2010. Porsche has not set their schedule for 2010, but we are looking at the first week of April to hold the event. The school is a two-day driving course using Porsche supplied vehicles. Mike Faems gave us his input on the school, stating that the school will teach skills you can use in all situations, from racing to the street, and that you do not have to be an expert to attend, that all driving levels will find the school worthwhile. Mike also gave us his warning, with a grin from ear to ear, he said, “just be careful, you might get hooked.”

Anne Fish stepped up as Membership Chair to encourage all members to submit an article about how they became involved with their cars and to tell us a little bit about themselves. It is always so nice to learn about our members and the varied interests they lead. It is also great to be able to match a car to a face. So I encourage all of you to send Anne the latest picture of your Porsche and a few sentences about yourself and your latest accomplishments to flyingfish_mail@yahoo.com.

And finally, Nancy Clancy did a fine job at “passing the hat.” In attempts for raising funds to pay for our social evening, we came up with a little over 90% of the bill, the balance was covered by savings from the Club. For that I want to thank you, the Q Roadhouse thanks you, and all of us who organized the event thanks you. It was a great evening and we look forward to seeing you this summer.
