The Porsche Potluck
By: Scot Anderson

Ok, so how many people do you know that will allow 58 people into their home and cook for them like they’re at some homeless shelter? That would be Mike & Nancy Faems, chef and hostess extraordinaire. Julia Child watch out cause Mike’s on the grill and Nancy’s kickin’ some you know what in the kitchen. With cocktail in hand, typical Julia style, Bon appétit!

And that was some heavy emphasis on the “Bon” part because that was some good eatin’. The burgers and brats by Chef Mike were excellent, as well as the appetizers, side dishes and desserts brought by all of our members. Nancy did an excellent job at preparing the food, keeping Mike on task, and controlling the party scene (no need to ask who wears the pants in that family). With cooks like Sara Lee Murphy for her peach tart, Poala Cerruti for her little Italian dessert and so many other delectable and utterly delicious side dishes (way too many to sample), a big thanks goes out to everyone for bringing the food to top off the event.

As the evening progressed, libations were served by myself and our world famous 2009 family of the year recipient Robin Koop. The weather cooperated nicely, with an inter-mix of sun and clouds it kept the evenings temperature comfortable.

Everyone enjoyed the Faems’ back yard for some quality Porsche socializing. We had Deb & Cory Johnson from the Minnesota Region PCA join us for the event, as well as guests of the Backman’s (Jill & Doug Schultz), and guests of the Stockhouse’s (Suzanne Kemmerer). Included in the activities was our newest Porsche enthusiast, Rory Prugh - the proud child of Greg & Eileen.

To finish off the evening, a croquet game broke out. Members challenged by the new course were dazed and confused at the quality of the greens. Last years event took place amongst the roughage of some of very difficult and jungle like surroundings (who’s home we shall not mention). This years’ event was a lot more civilized as the thorns and sticklers were not an issue. Yet a good time was had by all. As Eileen Prugh played her hand, new friendships were formed amongst the players. Tom Cook and his date Robin, enjoyed the camaraderie of fellow members Greg Prugh Jr & Sr along with Bill Murphy.

However, when it was all said and done, Bill Murphy squeaked out a close win over last year’s victor Greg Prugh Jr. It was a glorious game, according to Bill, as he proclaimed his mad mallet skills. Of course, you could hear Greg in the background wanting a replay as he insisted Bill cheated. And, like Santa on the rooftop, you could hear Bill proclaim with a grin from ear to ear, “you’ll just have to wait till next years challenge!”
