Club’s Summer BBQ
By: Scot Anderson

The Yellowstone Region Porsche Club Barbeque turned out to be a tremendous success. A sunny Saturday afternoon with temperatures in the 80’s made for a great social event.

I can’t thank Greg and Eileen Prugh enough for hosting. They opened their home to over 34 club members and provided a picturesque setting on their creek. With fine linens and rose bouquets on the tables, the stage was set. I even overheard that Greg mowed the lawn, a skill he takes pride in. However, a few sentences later, the words weed whacker and rototiller were thrown about with reckless abandon.

In addition to making a homemade pasta dish and a fresh green salad, Greg and Eileen provided the barbeque. Lou and Greg were appointed head chefs and did a great job at cooking the food. Our infamous president and treasurer, Ken and Robin Koop, brought a plethora of burgers and brats to keep us well fed. Robin was even able to whip up a cake for dessert. Her amazing cake assembly skills showed us how wonderful she is by emblazing the Yellowstone Region PCA emblem on the top (Smith’s supermarket helped on this one).

During the event, I couldn’t stop thinking of how great a region we have. The most rewarding part of putting on an event is having our members participate and for that I thank you. Charles Peterson, Nathan and Kathy Smith came all the way from Idaho to join the activities. Diane and Gary Hughes (new members) also joined us for the first time. They had no problem fitting in and meeting some great club people. Everyone in our region is so friendly; it makes our club events so enjoyable.

It wasn’t until later that afternoon, when the wine was flowing, that a game of croquet broke out. The competition was fierce, what with the Olympic season and all. Ken Koop, Greg Pugh, Bill Murphy and I started out as best of friends, but by the seventh wicket, things turned ugly. It was no longer a game of “may the best man win,” but turned into cut-throat, viscous competition of who could stay out of the weeds. Of course, Greg winning this match was a given. He did set the course and knew the lay of the land which included rocks, branches, trees, culverts and various other obstacles. He also had help from his dog, practiced for two weeks prior to the BBQ, modified the rules to suit his slice and threw in a few other curve balls to help his game. No hard feelings though. Next year it will be played on neutral ground and everyone will have had some practice rounds. Look out Greg, were gunning for you!
