Jackson Hole’s Amazing Race: The 2007 Scavenger Hunt/Rally 2007

This past July, Anne Fish and Scot Anderson thought it would be nice to try a new event in Jackson. They put together a scavenger hunt/rally that made the participants navigate through Jackson, Teton Village, Spring Creek Ranch and end at Dornans for some refreshments and a bite to eat. A total of eleven cars turned out for the event with two other cars joining the group at the finish. There were some nice prizes and surprises along the way as everyone was awarded hats from The Four Seasons Hotel, a cup of java from Jackson Hole Roasters and complementary lunches (for future use) at the Amangani. Our group totaled twenty-one members in all and everyone had a wonderful afternoon. Some of the participants took time to enjoy a Haagen-Dazs ice cream as they passed by this check point. Sean Haling took it to another level though. He thought he had enough time to buy some coffee, a coffee maker, fuel his car and also stop for some ice cream. WHAT WERE YOU THINKING? He won the "Most money spent during the rally" award, but unfortunately that shopping spree landed him in tenth place.

Because of my navigator’s clever ideas, Robin and I managed to just edge out Dan and Nancy Clancy for the dash to the finish line. The prize money was donated for beer at Dornans and the balance went to the club. So in the end, we all had a chance to drive our cars, see a few new ones that have been hidden in their garages and enjoyed a fun Saturday afternoon with our great members. It really was an exciting event and a lot of fun to participate in. I will model the honorary winner’s jacket at the October get-together meeting at Sidewinders. I can’t wait till next year to get rid of it-err I mean, it will be coveted until it is passed along to the winner of next year’s event.

There were a couple of minor incidents during the day; First, Phil Bates and his navigator developed shifter problems at the start (in a Lotus) and had to drive back to Idaho Falls in 3rd gear. They returned later that evening for the Symphony in Jackson. Now that’s commitment! Then Ked and Mandi Nilsen developed a tire puncture just after leaving Dornans and wound up driving back to Pocatello on the mini spare.

Great job Anne and Scot!!! Thank you for your hard work putting together this great new event! We’re looking forward to another fun event next year.
