Wild Poker Run a Wild Success!
By: Scot Anderson

The sun showed in all its glory to help make the 2008 Porsche’s Wild Poker Run and Pool Party a huge success. A warm Saturday afternoon, crystal blue skies and an enthusiastic crowd of 16 cars and 30 members gave a big boost to the summer driving season here in Jackson.

Starting at Smith’s Grocery store, participants were gathered with high anticipation. The club’s VP, Scot Anderson laid down the rules – no speeding. Dan and Nancy Clancy gave a pep talk to get the drivers psyched up for the event and Dick and Val Beck handed out water bottles donated by First Interstate Bank to mitigate the 85 degree temperatures.

Drivers were assigned envelopes containing the destinations for each stop. But it wasn’t that easy. Each envelope contained a limerick that required some very creative thinking to decipher the driver's route.

With each stop, drivers selected two cards from station attendants to add to their hand and received a new limerick to decipher. Station attendants Larry and Kniffy Hamilton volunteered at the Hoback Market, Dick and Val Beck handled the Nordic Inn, Sandra and Derek Goodson volunteered for the Swan Valley Post Office, and Scot Anderson handled the Highway Scales near Victor.

The awards ceremony was held at Dan and Nancy Clancy’s house – pool side. A barbeque was provided with traditional brats, burgers, salad and watermelon.

Awards were given for the heaviest and lightest cars, which weighed in at the Highway Scales during the event. Doug Henry squeaked by with the lightest car in his 1986 911 Targa weighing in at 2160 pounds and Brian Moore, with his wife Alexis Alley, daughter and niece in the car, driving a 2006 Porsche Cayenne Turbo S took the award for the heaviest car at 6400 pounds. Both Doug and Brian won a pair of tickets to the Grand Teton Music Festival.

Runner ups for the Grand Prize was Mike Mielke and his navigator Kristy, driving a 944, and Charles and Kitty Brown, driving their Cayenne. Both the Milke’s and the Brown’s won a free oil change by our very own, world famous, Porsche Mechanic - Brian Moore.

The infamous Augusta Green Jacket was passed on from last years Scavenger Hunt event winners (Ken and Robin Koop), to this year’s Poker Run Grand Prize Winners - with 3 Aces and two Tens – Lou and Margaret Hochheiser. The Grand Prize was a one night stay at the Pollard Hotel in Red Lodge Montana, with dinner and breakfast for two. In addition, the Grand Prize winners also won a third of the entry fees, totaling $165, which they so kindly donated a majority back to the club.

Congratulations Doug, Brian, Mike, Charles and Lou and Margaret and to all those who participated. It was a great event and we look forward to next year!!!
