The Ticket to Heaven
By: Scot Anderson
The 2008 Fall Tour to Park City was the ticket we all needed for a great weekend.
Tom Barker led 16 cars and 28 club members through the mountain passes of Wyoming, Idaho and Utah. The trees were in peak form as Porsche after Porsche tackled the twisties, from Tin Cup Pass on into Soda Springs, Montpelier Idaho and Garden City, where we stopped for lunch at Merlin’s for a delicious raspberry shake and burgers. After lunch, the club was lead again south to Interstate 80, where we made our way to Park City.
Ken Koop arranged to have ZA, from Dave Strong Porsche, meet us later that evening with a 2009 911 Cabriolet S. Thanks to ZA and Dave Strong for allowing us to test-drive first hand Porsche’s new PDK (Doppel Kupplung Transmission). And test drive did we ever. From the Canyon’s resort Grand Summit Hotel, club member after club member took a spin in the second generation 997 Cabriolet S with 385 horsepower and the infinitely smooth double clutch transmission. The blips on the steering-wheel shifters came quickly with effortless nature. To top off the evening, ZA and Dave Strong treated us to dinner at the Baja Cantina Mexican Restaurant. Our club members couldn’t have enjoyed the evening more. Thank you Dave Strong!
On Saturday, many of us went to Miller Motor Sports Park to watch a Porsche Club race. A few of us even got to take our cars out on the race track between two of the races. Other club members went shopping or met friends in Park City. Many of us met up later by the hotel pool to enjoy cocktails before dinner.
Dinner was at the Cabin Restaurant at the Grand Summit Hotel. Lots of food, socializing, great people and 3.5 hours later, we found ourselves well fed and moving not quite as fast as when we started the evening.
Sunday came quickly and before we knew it, we were once again driving our cars through the twisty mountain roads as we returned to Jackson. With a change in route due to road construction, Tom Barker led us home. Stopping for a group photo at the Green River Reservoir, just outside of LaBarge, Wyoming, was a great way to cap off the weekend.
I can’t thank Tom enough for picking such a great route to and from Park City. Thanks Ken and Robin for once again giving us another amazing fall tour. Park City was the ticket, driving our cars and test-driving new Porsches was every enthusiasts dream, but it was everyone who joined us that I also want to thank… without all of you, heaven would never have felt so good!
