The Inaugural Sports Car Race at Miller Motorsports Park

The ALMS held its 1st professional sports car race at Miller Motorsports Park on July 13-15. Over the three days of racing, more than 60 different Porsches competed in four separate categories (The GT3 Cup Challenge, Speed World Challenge GT, LMP2 and GT2 classes) on America’s longest road race circuit (4.5 miles). Porsche race cars represented the largest number of cars for any single manufacturer at the race. This is a great testament to our mark and their dedication to sports car racing.

A group of six Yellowstone Porsche Club members made the trek to Salt Lake City to watch the race and share in the fun. Over 50 Porsches were in attendance at the Porscheplatz where refreshments were provided during the race along with lunch before Saturday’s race. All Porsche Club Members who came to the race with their Porsches were permitted to take two laps on the track before the race started. Although not at race speeds, it was still an enjoyable Saturday morning drive and a chance to see the track from the driver’s seat. IMSA and PCA also invited two Porsche race teams along with seven of Porsche’s Senior Engineers from Weissach, Germany to talk at the Porscheplatz and answer questions. It was a very interesting and informative session.

Everyone had an enjoyable time taking pictures, getting autographs and watching the beautiful cars on the track and in the paddock. The only negative of the entire event was the excessive heat (100+). Porsches finished 1st & 3rd in LMP2, 2nd & 3rd in GT2 and 2nd place overall. Hope to see you at next year’s race!
